MacKay’s History of Service Excellence
Founded in 1980 as a White truck dealer, MacKay’s Truck & Trailer Center Limited was established by David MacKay and his father, Louis MacKay—both skilled diesel mechanics. Initially operating from a three-bay facility, the business expanded rapidly, becoming a Western Star dealer in 1982. That same year, to accommodate growth, the company relocated to its current location, upgrading to a 10-bay facility.
In its early years, MacKay’s grew from just two employees to a team of 14. In 1991, the company transitioned to Volvo as its primary truck line and expanded its offerings to include Manac trailers and Serco loaders, further strengthening its position in the industry.
Our Facility and Expansion Over the Years
Driven by the MacKay family's commitment to exceptional customer service, the business continued to grow, leading to a major expansion in 1999. This expansion added a spacious parts showroom and a state-of-the-art, 19-bay service department, featuring two drive-through bays and a dedicated body shop.In 2008, MacKay’s further expanded by acquiring the Mack and Hino dealership in Dartmouth, establishing a full-service Sales, Service, and Parts Department to support HRM and the surrounding areas.
In 2017, MacKay’s invested in a neighboring building, transforming it into MacKay’s Trailer Center. This facility features a two-bay service center, a fully stocked Trailer Parts Department, and a complete lineup of trailer brands, including Great Dane, Titan, Gincor Trailer Werx, JC Trailer, and Alutrec.
In 2021, MacKay’s further diversified its offerings by adding Isuzu Trucks and Bobcat Compact Equipment to its lineup.

MacKay’s Truro Body Shop is equipped with a state-of-the-art two-unit downdraft paint shop to handle all your body and paint needs. MacKay’s Dartmouth Shop features up to 18 bays, including 2 drive-through bays, for efficient service.
We also provide alignment, air conditioning service, and Krown Rust Protection for enhanced convenience. Our heavy-duty towing unit is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
